RMCC & Enfamil: A History of Vision and Support

The Rocky Mountain Childbirth Conference (RMCC) committee was formed with the initial invitation of Ray Bryant, Mead Johnson Nutritional (MJN) sales representative.  The conference would be based upon similar conferences that were being offered with MJN support both in Utah & Washington.  Ray approached several hospitals in Montana, and in May of 1991 a committee of 17 nurses and childbirth educators from six different hospitals in Montana began to plan for the 1st Rocky Mountain Childbirth Conference.  With only 6 months to plan, the first RMCC was held in Missoula, MT on November 7 & 8, 1991.  The conference has grown into an annual conference in MT that is much appreciated by caregivers from a variety of disciplines.  Attendees through the years have included hospital managers, acute care nurses, office nurses, childbirth educators, doulas, certified nurse midwives, lay midwives, physicians, social workers and chaplains.

One of the greatest characteristics of the RMCC is the collaboration of committee members from across the state, and from different work backgrounds.  It has made the RMCC a true, collaborative, team effort.  Though the support of healthcare individuals & institutions has contributed to RMCC’s success, it has historically been a conference for the promotion of education, not for the promotion of specific programs or individuals.

Mead Johnson Nutritional, now known as Enfamil, persists to be an integral component to the accomplishment of the Rocky Mountain Childbirth Conference Committee’s goal of designing and executing a rich educational and networking experience. The RMCC Committee and perinatal healthcare community are so grateful for the continued annual support!
